A former Montreal Canadiens player has indeed just announced that he wants to attempt a return to the National Hockey League immediately.

Keith Kinkaid, who notably served as a backup for Carey Price in Montreal, was on fire during the most recent 3ICE event, and that summer success motivated him to try returning to the big league.

Former Montreal Canadiens player Keith Kinkaid wants to attempt a return to the National Hockey League immediately, as early as this season

Recently in an interview via the NHL's official website, Kinkaid announced that he "still has gas left in the tank" and that he hopes for a return to the NHL after his successful run in 3ICE.
Even though he mentioned that he loves Montreal, I don't see how his NHL return could go through the Canadiens.
"Right now, I just want to keep playing. We'll see what happens," Kinkaid said. "This is a great opportunity to show I still have it. My body is holding up very well. I am 36, but I am just trying to prolong my career because once it's done, it's done. [3ICE] has given me the chance to keep playing, to showcase that I still have gas left in the tank. It has been a tough couple of years just bouncing around, but hopefully someone calls and I get the chance to play again this season.

"Any opportunity is fine with me."

Netminders Samuel Montembeault, Jakub Dobes, and Kaapo Kahkonen will be the three goaltenders for the Habs this season, and we may possibly add the name of young Jacob Fowler to that list next spring.
Where there could possibly be an opportunity for Kinkaid is if an NHL team loses a goaltender in the middle of training camp (due to injury) in a few weeks.
Keith Kinkaid, 36 years old, is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound goaltender who has played in 169 career games in the National Hockey League, mostly with the New Jersey Devils.
He has a record of 70-58-21, with a goals-against average of 2.91 and a save percentage of .905.
Last season, he played 32 games in the ECHL, including against the Trois-Rivières Lions, and his last NHL appearance dates back to the 2022-23 season, during which he played one game with the Colorado Avalanche.
