We suspected it, but we have just received our confirmation regarding goaltender Samuel Montembeault and the Washington Capitals.
It will be Samuel Montembeault who faces Alex Ovechkin and his crew tomorrow night at 7 p.m., live from the Bell Centre.
That's what Martin St-Louis confirmed in his press conference:
And that's what the Montreal Canadiens then confirmed through an official statement:
An alternation sets in between Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes in the Canadiens' net
We spent so much time a few weeks ago trying to figure out who would be the number-one goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens and now the answer simply seems to be: neither of them!
Both Canadiens goalies appear to simply be alternating starts, like in minor hockey, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Samuel Montembeault, 29 years old, has a 4-5-1 record this season, with a goals-against average of 3.56 and a save percentage of .858.
Jakub Dobes, 24 years old, has a 6-1-2 record this season, with a goals-against average of 2.71 and a save percentage of .898.
It has been more difficult for the Canadiens' goaltenders over the past few games, and that unfortunately explains part of the team's struggles (that, and the injuries, of course).
I'm very curious to see which one, between Dobes and Montembeault, will be able to elevate his game over the next few weeks, because the players are going to need it.
