We witnessed an unexpected scene last night between the New York Islanders and the Dallas Stars, involving head coach Patrick Roy.
It was vintage Patrick Roy!
Late in the game, with his team leading 3-2, Roy absolutely lost it on star forward
Mikko Rantanen after he hit Alex Romanov from behind.
Rantanen was handed a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for the play on the former Canadiens defenseman.
He went straight up to him and yelled this:
"You won't finish the game at home! Why won't you come and talk in New York!? You're not gonna f**** finish that game!"
Roy to Rantanen
What energy, what intensity - and you can clearly see how much his players loved every second of it!
Another solid win for Patrick Roy's New York Islanders
Roy shows a ton of emotion, and it truly seems to fire up his group.
After a tougher start to the season for the Islanders, Roy's intensity and tenacity seem to have lifted his team.
As of today, the Islanders sit in the first wild-card spot in the East with an 11-7-2 record (24points), two points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It shows just how strong a head coach Roy is - he doesn't exactly have elite talent throughout his roster, but he keeps proving people wrong.
In the end, the Islanders sealed a 3-2 win after all that chaos. Love him or hate him, Roy's passion is clearly contagious, and it's exactly what the Islanders needed.
