As we reported to you in the past few hours, the Pittsburgh Penguins caused a surprise in the NHL by placing Philip Tomasino on waivers.

He is a very interesting young forward for a team like the Montreal Canadiens, so we couldn't wait to get a verdict.
Several sources were indeed indicating that the Habs were involved and doing their homework on this file!

The verdict has just come in for forward Philip Tomasino on waivers

Today, we get a second surprise.
Not only was Tomasino placed on waivers, but on top of that, he wasn't even claimed!
Clearly, something fishy is going on here!

So in the end, Canadiens management preferred to keep guys like Veleno and Roy over taking a free swing at Tomasino.
I am extremely surprised to see that no one claimed Tomasino, and I am extremely surprised to see that the Montreal Canadiens ignored him, especially given the current circumstances.
Tomasino, 24 years old, is a 6-foot, 187-pound forward who was a first-round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2019.
He collected 100 points in only 62 games in his final OHL season, at just 18 years old, and he was genuinely on track to become a dominant NHL player.
Tomasino also recorded a very solid 32 points in 29 AHL games at age 19, 32 points in 76 NHL games at age 20, and 18 points in 31 games at age 21 (still in the NHL).
He was selected 24th overall by the Predators, six spots ahead of John Beecher (30th) and eight spots behind Cole Caufield (15th) and Alex Newhook (16th).
And you, do you believe the Habs should have claimed Tomasino?
I don't know what happened with Tomasino, but he was clearly much better than Alex Newhook not so long ago!
Last season, Tomasino collected 23 points in 50 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
More details to come.
