It's always interesting to learn what happened behind the scenes at the NHL Draft-especially when it involves the Montreal Canadiens.

Well, here's a good one.
First, let's recall that to start Day 2 of the 2025 Draft, Kent Hughes and the Canadiens made a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Montreal acquired the 34th overall pick (and a 6th-round pick) in exchange for the 41st and 49th overall picks in the 2025 Draft.
After the trade, the Habs selected the excellent Alexander Zharovsky with the 34th pick.
Now we've learned that thanks to that trade, the Canadiens outright stole young forward Zharovsky from the Nashville Predators.

The Nashville Predators were going to draft Alexander Zharovsky with the 35th overall pick

Wow! A brilliant trade by Kent Hughes, who literally snatched Zharovsky from the Preds at the very last second, as reported by the excellent journalist Alexandre Gascon of Radio-Canada.
In the article above, there's the following passage:
"On Saturday morning, however, Zharovsky was still available.

The Habs were determined to get him, and Bobrov knew he wouldn't still be on the board if they let the Nashville Predators pick at 35..

After the draft, Bobrov even called Jeff Kealty, his counterpart in Tennessee, to confirm his impressions..

It's now confirmed! Nashville had to settle for defenseman Jacob Rombach instead.
I love this kind of draft-day story!

Out of curiosity, would you trade Alexander Zharovsky for Kashawn Aitcheson (17th overall pick)?
