Joshua Roy did not survive the first cuts at the Montreal Canadiens' training camp. He was therefore cut and will start his season with the Laval Rocket.

Following this latest disappointment, the player himself admitted he is aware of his shortcomings and wants to prove that he can be an NHL player.
"There's still a lot of work to do on my game and on the little details that will allow me to make it to the next level.

I have to bring more than just offense. I need to become better defensively, that would become an asset. I put in the effort and gave myself the best chance.

Nothing is over yet.

It didn't go the way I wanted, but I'm still young and I'm going to keep chasing my dream."

We can see that the 22-year-old arrived in Laval with an excellent mindset.

A scout confirms to Arpon Basu that NHL teams have not given up on Joshua Roy and that he would very likely be claimed off waivers

In a recent article for The Athletic, Arpon Basu spoke with an NHL scout about Joshua Roy.
From what we gather from that discussion, he would not recommend his GM trade for him, but it would be different if he were on waivers.
"The scout told me that if Roy ended up on waivers, he could recommend claiming him."

Roy, who is in the final year of his NHL entry-level contract, does not need to clear waivers when he is sent down.
However, that could change in the coming years and, from what we understand here, the Canadiens could easily lose him.
It will be interesting to see how the native of Saint-Georges-de-Beauce approaches the upcoming season.
"Whether he says it or not, of course he's disappointed because he had a good summer, showed more pace, but he still has time ahead of him.

He feels he's on the right path and that by working like he did this summer, he's getting closer to his goal.

We're going to push him hard this year."

One thing is certain though, his coach with the Rocket will do everything to help him reach the next level.
