The highly reputable insider Darren Dreger has just confirmed a very interesting piece of information involving the Montreal Canadiens.
A few days ago, when the Boston Bruins placed the name of 24-year-old forward
John Beecher on NHL waivers, several rumors were sending him to the Canadiens.
In the end, this rumor never materialized because Beecher was claimed by the Calgary Flames.
"Johnny Beecher, put on waivers by Boston; obviously Calgary's gonna take him; if he'd slipped deeper Montreal for sure. I'm not sure the Leafs wouldn't have... there would have been a number of different teams."

So the Canadiens were really going to acquire Beecher, they were really going to claim him, but the Calgary Flames simply beat them to it.
The Montreal Canadiens had claimed John Beecher, according to Darren Dreger, but the Calgary Flames had priority
It is therefore simply because the Flames were lower than the Habs in the overall standings that Beecher is not a member of the Tricolore today.
John Beecher, 24 years old, is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound center who was the 30th overall pick of the Boston Bruins in 2019 (1st-round pick).
He played with the famous US National Development Team (20 points in 27 games) and has accumulated 22 points in 137 career games in the nhl
He really would have been useful to the Habs as a young, complete center.
