There's an interesting situation to watch today for the Montreal Canadiens, up front, and it involves a young player from the Boston Bruins.
Because of the injuries to
Alex Newhook and
Kirby Dach, we immediately made the connection to the Montreal Canadiens - and now the well-known Elliotte Friedman has done the same!
The Canadiens could be preparing to claim forward John Beecher off waivers
On Donnie and Dhali, Friedman briefly brought up Montreal when Beecher hit waivers:
Elliotte Friedman: "John Beecher on waivers today, I'm curious to see if Montreal looks at him at all." - Donnie and Dhali
It's not a report that Montreal will claim him, but it's enough to put the Canadiens on the radar in this file.
John Beecher, 24, is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound center who was selected 30th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2019 (1st round pick). He's a bottom-six centre who can kill penalties and bring size down the middle especially with the injuries to Newhook and Dach.
He played for the famed US National Development Team (20 points in 27 games) and has collected 22 points in 136 career NHL games.
A situation to follow a bit later today!
And in your opinion, should the Canadiens put in a claim for John Beecher on waivers?
In any case, there's enough chatter to make Beecher an interesting Habs-style waiver target, especially since he could replace
Joshua Roy, who is still trying to find consistency at the NHL level.
With Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach both out long-term, Beecher would give the Habs another NHL-ready body at centre without costing them an asset.
