Frustrating revelations: the Maple Leafs lied to young forward Nicolas Aubé-Kubel

Recently, young Quebec forward Nicolas Aubé-Kubel appeared on the "La Poche Bleue" podcast with Max Lapierre and Guillaume Latendresse. He made some very interesting revelations that speak volumes about the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

He first mentioned that what convinced him to sign with the Leafs was a promise from head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Keefe had indeed promised Aubé-Kubel that he would play on the Leafs' third line, with a lot of playing time, and probably some time on the power play (or on the power play).

This was important to Nicolas, especially because he was taking a "discount" contract with the Leafs, to help them and to prove himself, in order to possibly get a bigger contract the following summer.

This is why Nicolas Aubé-Kubel signed a small contract of one million dollars in Toronto.

But it really didn't work out as planned.

"Two days after signing me, they signed Calle Jarnkrok, another right winger. He's a really good player. When I came to camp, he was the one playing on the third line, he had the power play.

Me, I didn't get any shorthanded time, I played on the fourth line."

He mentioned that he didn't have the best training camp of his career, but he really would have liked (at least) to have had his chance.

The Leafs flat out lied to him to get him to sign his contract at a discount.

In the end, everything ended well for Aubé-Kubel, who was placed on waivers after six short games, and was finally claimed by the Washington Capitals.

Since this change, things are much better for him.

His ice time has increased and so has his production. He recently got a try on the big Alex Ovechkin's trio, no less!

We wish him the best of luck in Washington. He deserves it so much!
