Connor McDavid received a nasty cross check to the face by a Canucks defenseman after the final whistle last night in game 3.
Following a disappointing performance from the Edmonton Oilers' captain, where he couldn't score a point for the first time since the playoffs started, McDavid got involved in a massive incident with Canucks' defensemen Nikita Zadorov and Carson Soucy.
After the final horn, McDavid slashed Soucy and the defenseman reciprocated. However, it didn't end there. As he was aiming for McDavid's chest with a cross check, his teammate, Nikita Zadorov, came in from behind and hit McDavid in the back. As he leaned forward due to the impact, Soucy's cross check ended up being on his head.
Soucy shared his thoughts on the hit, blaming Zadorov for him hitting McDavid's head:
The defense of Carson Soucy rests on something flimsy ("I was aiming for his chest, but my teammate cross-checked him in the back so I missed"), but honestly, it's so, so clear that he didn't meant to connect with McDavid's head.
