Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels has revealed major new information regarding Lane Hutson's new contract with the Montreal Canadiens.

First, let's recall that this morning, completely unexpectedly, the Canadiens announced an eight-year contract extension with Lane Hutson - a deal that will pay him $8.85 million per year.
It's a huge surprise to see that Hughes managed to sign Hutson (and long-term, too) for under nine million per season.

Lane Hutson turned down a bigger offer from Kent Hughes

You read that right! absolutely incredible!
"Lane Hutson was offered more but signed for less. He bought himself security and bought the Habs a bit more room to continue building a championship-caliber team.

He wants to win.

He could've held out for more and could've waited much longer.

Not doing that says a lot about him"

- Eric Engels

Wow, wow, and wow!
Hutson also added this:
Lane Hutson: "I think every time you get to throw on this jersey it's special. Whether it's practice, games, pre-season, playoffs, it means so much to me, and it's pretty special I get to do it for a while now."
Once again, he's proven his sincerity with this beautiful contract extension for the Habs!
Hutson has one point in three games this season, but now that his contract situation is settled, he can finally focus on hockey again.
