We have some movement in the Mason McTavish situation, and it's interesting for the Montreal Canadiens.

For those who completely tuned out this summer and haven't followed the situation, here's a quick recap.
Mason McTavish is an excellent young center who would be a dream second-line center in Montreal, and he still doesn't have a contract for the 2025-26 season.
He doesn't seem close to a deal with the Ducks and might not even be sure he wants to continue his career in Anaheim, due to the uncertainty surrounding his future role there.
Numerous sources, including Marco D'Amico and David Pagnotta, have confirmed that the Montreal Canadiens are closely monitoring this situation in order to possibly acquire McTavish.
Anyway, there's an update today.

Mason McTavish refused to report to the Anaheim Ducks training camp today

That's what the well-known Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet is reporting.
"With training camp on-ice sessions beginning today, Mason McTavish is skating with the OHL's Ottawa 67s

The contract stalemate continues in Anaheim. It's believed the Ducks prefer not to do a bridge, but no common ground yet."

- Elliotte Friedman, Sportsnet
We reported last week this could be a possibility, and now it's confirmed: McTavish will not attend the Ducks camp.

And what if a trade was cooking for Mason McTavish?

As mentioned at the start, the Montreal Canadiens have the necessary picks to possibly submit an offer sheet to McTavish.
Could this be an avenue explored by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton?
There's obviously the "Gavin McKenna" fear, but we can agree that the chances of the Canadiens' 2026 first-round pick becoming first overall are extremely slim at this point.
A situation to follow, in any case!
