Injury Scare Hits Canadiens on Day 1 of Training Camp as Player Leaves Practice
We have our first injury to report, live from the Montreal Canadiens' 2025 training camp.
As mentioned by TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie, young
Oliver Kapanen just left the ice after being hit near the left eye with a stick.
"Oliver Kapanen left practice after getting a stick close to his left eye. Nothing major" - Renaud Lavoie
This is therefore the first situation to monitor for the Canadiens regarding injuries.
Oliver Kapanen Leaves Practice Due to an Injury
Kapanen is expected to be a regular player for the Canadiens this season, so if he has to miss time, it's clear that it would open the door for another young player.
Oliver Kapanen, 22 years old, is a right-handed center who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 194 pounds.
A second-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2021 (64th overall), he recorded 2 points in 18 NHL games last season, as well as 6 points in 11 playoff games with the Laval Rocket.
It's in Sweden where he truly excelled, tallying 35 points in 36 games, including 15 goals.
Especially after the departure of
Emil Heineman (traded to the New York Islanders in the
Noah Dobson trade), Kapanen's role in Montreal has certainly grown.
We already have a very good picture of the upcoming lines and pairings, at least to start the preseason schedule.
There will be a few interesting battles to watch for roster spots.
