We once again have action on the NHL waiver wire today, and there's also a surprise up front involving a former Montreal Canadiens player.

In fact, there are few surprises.
Among the 17 players placed on waivers today, note that former Habs forward Rafaël Harvey-Pinard has been waived, despite earlier statements from the Pittsburgh Penguins this summer. It's certainly a disappointing surprise for him.
"In Montreal or Pittsburgh, the reality remains the same for Harvey-Pinard: he will need to work hard to carve out a spot in the NHL." - NHL
On defense, blueliner Ryan Graves is probably the biggest name to be placed on waivers in the NHL this season. He earns $4.5 million per year until 2029 - imagine that - and he's currently on waivers.
The Penguins have therefore caused quite a stir by placing these two players on waivers (among a few others).
Let's remember that Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens currently hold the 16th overall spot (the 16th claim) when it comes to selecting players off waivers.
The waiver priority order is determined by the reverse standings of the 2024-2025 season.

Plenty of action on the NHL waiver wire as Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens still hold the 16th claim

The full list is right here:
Among the notable names, we see former first-round pick Tobias Bjornfot, promising forward Thomas Bordeleau, tough winger Zack MacEwen.
As well as Quebec native and Penguins first-round pick Samuel Poulin (in addition to Graves and RHP).
Do you think any of the names mentioned above could interest Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens?
Personally, I'm thinking of Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, but also Thomas Bordeleau.
Bordeleau has 18 points in 44 NHL games, is only 23 years old, and has produced everywhere he's played (67 points in 61 NCAA games and 44 points in his first 67 AHL games).
