As we reported in the last few hours, there was a huge surprise in the NHL waivers to end the year 2023.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed their goalie Ilya Samsonov on waivers.
Samsonov, 26, is a first-round pick (22nd overall) of the Washington Capitals in 2015. In 42 games last season, he had a record of 27-10-5, with a 2.33 GAA and a .920 save percentage.
He was among the best goalies in the entire NHL last year.
However, this season, he has a record of 5-2-6, a 3.94 GAA, and a .862 save percentage.
In short, he wasn't even claimed off NHL waivers!
