Journalist Mikaël Lalancette has just shared some terrible news.

He was only 52 years old, imagine that..
I am speechless. Dutil was a name well known by many hockey fans in Quebec.

Nicolas Dutil has passed away at the age of 52

"Sad news in the hockey world: former referee Nicolas Dutil passed away this morning at the age of 52.

He was an official in the QMJHL for 28 years.

My deepest condolences to his loved ones."

- Mikaël Lalancette
We so sincerely want to offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
It is also the entire QMJHL, and the entire hockey world, that are mourning today.
The entire QMJHL family is saddened to learn of the passing of Nicolas Dutil, one of the greatest referees in league history. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Rest in peace Nic, and thank you for everything!
Mr. Dutil also gave us an incredibly moving moment this past March.
"It was a touching moment last Saturday! Official Nicolas Dutil was on duty for his first game in over seven months after being diagnosed with cancer.

We're delighted to have him back on the ice, and back to 100% real soon! - QMJHL
In his own way, he certainly left his mark on the history of the QMJHL.
Most hockey fans know very well the name Nicolas Dutil, as he was an extremely respected referee here.
He will certainly leave behind a beautiful legacy for our young Quebec referees, and for the profession in general.
