DRAFT: Hughes eliminates 3 names from his list, including a surprise
Ahead of the 2024 NHL draft, the GM of the CH, Kent Hughes, has just made a big revelation.
Recently in an interview on TSN, Hughes talked about his priorities for the next draft session, and let's just say he was very transparent.
The GM of the Habs clearly stated, straightforwardly, that he would be open to trading his first-round pick if, at the time of his selection, the best player available is a left-handed defenseman.

Clearly, they do not want to draft a left-handed defenseman.
"Hughes mentions that the Tricolore is currently in a good position in terms of depth in defense, and particularly with left-handed defensemen.
He alluded to the fact that if they find themselves in a situation where the best player available is a left-handed defenseman, they would probably consider a trade. It seems like they will go with a forward or a right-handed defenseman at the draft."
Among the top 10 players available in the 2024 draft, there are Zeev Buium (5th), Anton Silayev (3rd), and Sam Dickinson (7th). We are talking about three left-handed defensemen, so we can forget about these three names.
According to all indications, the Montreal Canadiens will not draft one of the three names above.
This obviously leaves Macklin Celebrini and Ivan Demidov, but also Berkly Catton, Cayden Lindstrom, Zayne Parekh, and Artyom Levshunov.
We are really looking forward to it anyway, especially since Kent Hughes seems like a GM ready to make moves and ready to take the next step.
He reiterated his desire to make another trade like the Kirby Dach / Alex Newhook one. Stay tuned!
