Ovechkin breaks his silence on a potential trade out of Washington
Recently in an interview, Washington Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin caused a surprise related to the potential of a trade involving him.
It should be noted that the great number 8 had only 8 goals before the NHL All-Star break, and he had a tougher start to the season.
However, at the most important time of the regular season for the Capitals, he stepped up and finished the 2023-2024 campaign with a very solid 23 goals in 39 games. Classic Ovi!
Alex Ovechkin surprises and declares he thought he would be traded by the Washington Capitals this season
You read that right.
As Ovechkin is at 853 career goals, 41 goals shy of Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 goals, he seems to be worried about his future in Washington.
It's a big surprise for many fans, but as reported by Sammi Silber, a journalist from Washington, Ovechkin just declared the following:
« Yes, I was worried about being traded this season and I believed it would happen, but thank God, I am still a Capital. Honestly, this whole situation was tough for me. » - Alex Ovechkin
And he added that he takes nothing for granted and does not feel "safe" this summer regarding a possible trade.
Did the management really think about trading him? Are they still thinking about it? It seems unimaginable, but this will be a file to keep in mind over the coming months.
Personally, I don't believe it at all, but we are only reporting Ovechkin's words.
We'll see if the 2024-2025 season will be historic for Alex Ovechkin! If anyone can break this record, it's him!
Ovechkin, 38 years old, amassed 65 points, including 31 goals, in 79 games this season, after a haul of 75 points in 73 games last season.
