We learned some big news earlier today with the firing of John Tortorella by the Philadelphia Flyers.
We say firing, but in reality, as many experts mention, it's Tortorella who removed himself from Philadelphia.
A historic statement from John Tortorella before the game against the Montreal Canadiens
As insider Frank Seravalli mentions, this is probably something never seen before in NHL history, but Tortorella delivered a major message before the game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Montreal Canadiens.
"This falls on me, I'm not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season where we're at right now..
but I have to do a better job."
- John Tortorella said 36 hours before being fired by the Flyers.
And check out the clip in question:
John Tortorella was no longer interested in coaching a team in such a position in the standings
That ultimately led to his dismissal, literally the same day his (former) team faced off against Martin St. Louis and the Montreal Canadiens.
So, there will be no reunion between MSL and Torts tonight.
It will also be an extremely important game for the Montreal Canadiens, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the race for a playoff spot in the East.
Under Tortorella's leadership, the Flyers posted a 28-36-9 record this season, sitting 8th in the Metropolitan Division.
