We have a signing to announce within the Montreal Canadiens organization. Much like Lucas Condotta a few years ago, the Habs organization is once again dipping into the NCAA free agent pool!
Mark Estapa signs a professional tryout contract
Check out the official press release and confirmation.
It will be interesting to see if, like Condotta, he can eventually become an option for the Montreal Canadiens.
Mark Estapa, 23 years old, is a 6-foot-2, 197-pound forward who recorded 12 points in 35 games this season with the University of Michigan (NCAA).
A teammate of Michael Hage
Indeed, he's a teammate of another well-known name within the Canadiens organization, Michael Hage.
While Hage is expected to return to the Wolverines next season, that clearly won't be the case for Estapa.
We're eager to see what he can bring to the Laval Rocket in the coming weeks, as he joins the team right before the AHL playoffs.
Could this signing be a hint at a possible call-up coming from Kent Hughes and the Habs? A storyline to watch.
Before heading to Michigan, Estapa spent three seasons with the Tri-City Storm (USHL).
In his final season, he tallied 31 points in 45 games, including ten goals.
Welcome to Laval, and welcome to the Montreal Canadiens organization, Mark!
