We know that Martin St-Louis and John Tortorella have an extremely valuable relationship, and we also know that Tortorella is currently available.
We also know that the Montreal Canadiens have an open position for an assistant coach.
In an article published on NHL.com, John Tortorella discussed his dismissal by the Philadelphia Flyers before the end of last season and opened the door to returning behind an NHL bench.
In short, the team's general manager, Daniel Brière, let him go with only a few games left to play. However, Tortorella holds no grudge and even said that Brière made the right decision given the circumstances.
"Do I think I should have been fired for that?
No. But I have too much respect for the players to try to get the most out of them when it no longer means anything.
Danny made the right decision by selling at the trade deadline.
Management is building the right way, and my vision was aligned with theirs.
But it's still difficult.
And it was also difficult for the players, and that's what I meant after the game against Toronto."

John Tortorella wants to return: could he become Martin St-Louis' assistant in Montreal?
While it's unlikely that the fiery coach will return as an NHL head coach, he will serve as Mike Sullivan's assistant for Team USA at the upcoming Winter Olympics in February.
Could this be a prelude to his full return to the NHL?
In that article, Tortorella praised Martin St-Louis' work as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens and predicted a long, successful coaching career for him in the NHL.
We all know that St-Louis was coached by Tortorella during his prime years with the Tampa Bay Lightning. So, one can wonder if we might one day see him become St-Louis' assistant in Montreal.
