Even if we suspect that we won't see Carey Price in the pads any time soon, there is one person who still believes in a miracle.
In an interview with Jean-Charles Lajoie of TVA Sports, Jimmy Waite, who is now goalie coach with the Chicago Blackhawks, believes that if there is one goalie capable of making a comeback after missing a full year, it is Carey Price.
It's getting harder and harder to come back after a full year without playing, especially as you get older. If there's one who can do it, I think it's Carey Price. With the talent he has, I think it's doable. He's the only one who knows if his knee can do it. With the style of play we play today, it's very demanding on the knees and hips. It's not like it used to be. The position has changed."
Waite is very familiar with the goalie position.
We know it's very demanding on the body, and Price has had to go under the knife several times in his career, but at his press briefing with the Montreal media earlier this week, he never mentioned the word retirement. He also mentioned that he was hopeful that a miracle would happen.
During the interview with Lajoie, Waite also commented on his team's good start to the season and let's just say that he is very happy for Luke Richardson, to whom he gave a lot of credit for the Blackhawks' success this year.
"Luke is a good breath of fresh air for us this season. He's a guy who is so quiet, but he demands respect. He's had a career of just under 20 years in the NHL. When you see a coach with a career like that, it deserves the respect of all the players. That's what he has today."
We love it!
