It's a situation that has been the talk of the National Hockey League since the beginning of the season, as young Shane Wright is being used controversially by the Seattle Kraken. In fact, he's not playing.
It's getting a lot of press and fanfare, but what we didn't know is that it's also starting to get some internal buzz.
"(Jeff) Marek (of Sportsnet), at intermission, said that as far as Shane Wright is concerned, it seems like everyone involved is frustrated. There's a lot of frustration, as he's been out (of the lineup) for a 3rd straight game, averaging 6:51 (per game) of playing time. However, Marek doesn't think Francis wants to send him back to Kingston, he wants to keep him for the season." - NHL Watcher
This is still major. We thought the strategy was pretty risky and incomprehensible, but little did we know that even Shane Wright's camp is getting tired of it.
To say the least, this is a rather peculiar way to develop a young fourth overall pick who badly needs to play games.
Recall that Wright already missed an entire season of hockey two years ago due to the pandemic. He needs to play, and right now Seattle is depriving him of those precious minutes.
Knowing that Shane Wright's camp is already getting frustrated, and knowing that the Kraken's general manager has no intention of changing his mind, this will be an interesting case to follow.
Let's hope for their sake that it doesn't get too heated. The fans are already complaining about this issue, and it looks like it's starting to happen internally as well.
In addition, the recent success of Juraj Slafkovsky with the Montreal Canadiens can't help but calm down the Shane Wright camp.
Stay tuned!
