Kris Letang's time in Pittsburgh coming to an end? Habs fans can start to believe

One of the issues that is causing a lot of talk in Pittsburgh is the future of defenseman Kris Letang with the team.

While, even the Penguins themselves would not be surprised to see an interest from the Canadians towards Letang, several indications seem to point in the direction of an imminent divorce between Letang and Pittsburgh.

It seems, according to Josh Yohe of The Athletic, that Evgeni Malkin (the Penguins' other big free agent) is really interested in staying in Pittsburgh and he would even be willing to accept a reduction of salary to make it work.

However, this does not seem to be the case with Letang. Sources have reportedly told The Athletic that the defenseman believes he deserves a pay rise and really wants one.

Letang isn't against returning to the Penguins, but he wants a raise. If ever Pittsburgh is unable to provide it (which it may be), another organization will. Will it be the Habs? You be the judge.

Recall that the journalist for TVA Sports, Renaud Lavoie, has repeatedly mentioned that the Quebec defender would be a perfect "fit" for the Canadiens in 2022-2023... The arrival of the defender's former agent at the helm of the club did nothing to diminish these rumours.

The reporter of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Josh Yohe, added this :

«It's very easy to imagine Kris Letang leaving the Penguins via free agents this summer."

Recall that, according to Pierre LeBrun, the leaders of the Habs want to sign a star player this summer, via free agents. Will it be Letang?

Letang, 34 and a native of Montreal, is having another extraordinary season, having amassed an impressive 48 points in 51 games in 2021-22. He currently earns 7.25 million per season.
