The trade concluded between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets in February is now official, completed, and settled.

Kent Hughes will ultimately receive only a 2024 first-round pick in return for Sean Monahan, as the third-round pick involved in the transaction has just been withdrawn.
The Canadiens just lost a good draft pick
As Marco Normandin mentions, this pick will never go into the Tricolore's bank.
« This pick (third round) was tied to the condition that the Jets win the Stanley Cup this season.

Unfortunately for the CH, Winnipeg was defeated in five short games yesterday against the Colorado Avalanche, ensuring that this third-round pick will never belong to Kent Hughes and his team.» - Via HF

Good and bad news for Kent Hughes

The elimination of the Winnipeg Jets last night against the Colorado Avalanche has impacts on the CH at several levels.
The bad news, as we mentioned earlier, is that we lose a valuable third-round pick.
However, the good news is that the Jets' first-round pick moves up a few spots! Marc-Olivier Beaudoin sums it up well here:
« With the Jets eliminated last night, their first-round pick belonging to the CH will be at most 27th but could also become 24-25-26th depending on the teams advancing to the final four.

But very, very likely between 25 and 27th. That gives an idea!»

This therefore increases the chances of Kent Hughes and the Tricolore to be able to draft young Cole Hutson!

Transaction completed between Montreal and Winnipeg: the pick acquired for Sean Monahan could become Cole Hutson!

The younger brother of Lane Hutson, of the Montreal Canadiens, is exactly expected to be picked around the 25th overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Cole Hutson, 17 years old, is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed defenseman. He has amassed 12 points in 19 games this season with the US National Development Team.
Just like Lane, he will play for Boston University next season in the NCAA. He is compared by many to his older brother, so this will be an interesting file to watch.
If the trade becomes Sean Monahan vs Cole Hutson, would you be satisfied?
