Trade between the Habs and the Avalanche: a clear mistake by Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche certainly regrets a failed trade with Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens, during the recent trade deadline.
Let's remember that a few weeks ago, before trading
Jake Allen to the New Jersey Devils for a conditional third-round pick in 2025, numerous serious rumors were sending the veteran goaltender to the Colorado Avalanche.
These details were also confirmed by the excellent Pierre LeBrun.
They wanted an experienced goaltender, and Montreal had one (a Stanley Cup champion no less), but they eventually decided to pass.
The Avalanche certainly regrets not having accepted the trade with Kent Hughes for Jake Allen
Let's be honest. Yesterday, they lost their first 2024 playoff game because of their goaltender.
« We're going to need more saves to win.» - Jared Bednar, head coach of the Avalanche
Their starting goaltender, Alexandar Georgiev, allowed 7 goals on 23 shots. Ouch.
Their goalie has been shaky for weeks.
And unfortunately, the Avalanche has no other option than Georgiev. Their backup goaltender yesterday was a certain Arvid Holm.
We are talking about a goalie who has never played an NHL game and who played four games in the ECHL.
«I can't help but wonder what this game would look like if Jake Allen was playing for the Avs instead of sitting in a TV studio in Toronto.» - Arpon Basu, The Athletic
To be continued, but it's clear that this refused transaction would currently help the Avalanche a lot, especially since Jake Allen has been excellent for the New Jersey Devils after his trade.
