Kent Hughes made his intentions clear during the review, expressing his desire to add offensive talent to his lineup through trades and the 2024 draft.
Given that the GM likes to make moves during the draft, we can easily imagine he is deep in negotiations.
David Pagnotta announces that Kent Hughes is active on the trade market and is discussing transactions: Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras targeted
According to David Pagnotta, we were right. The GM is involved in multiple discussions, searching for a top-6 forward.
It didn't take long for the names Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras to resurface.
"Kent Hughes is engaged in conversations with teams and is exploring the proven guys and the top 6 available in the NHL. He is looking at the wing and wants to add more points to this lineup, which is why we hear all these speculations about Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras."
- David Pagnotta
It's certain that Hughes is just doing his job by inquiring all around the league. But knowing he is so aggressive is very encouraging for the future. He is working hard to achieve his goal of adding offense, and nothing seems to shake him.
The fact that Pagnotta mentions he is talking not just to one, but to multiple teams also says a lot. He is trying to find the right player, and that player might not be the one everyone has in mind. It could be Necas or Zegras, or even Patrik Laine.
But I lean more towards an unexpected player.
So it would not be surprising if we see another out-of-left-field trade in the next few weeks.
Stay tuned!
