2 new interesting targets have been linked to the Canadiens this summer
A few weeks before the NHL draft, there are numerous rumors concerning the Canadiens and the strategy Kent Hughes will use.
We all know that the Canadiens' general manager is very active right now in searching for a forward, and the names Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras have been frequently mentioned in recent days.
However, it seems that the asking price from the Anaheim Ducks and the Carolina Hurricanes is too high for the Canadiens' liking. But there are other interesting young forwards that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton should consider, who will cost significantly less than Necas and Zegras.
This topic was discussed by Simon Boisvert in a recent episode of the podcast Processus, where he suggested the names of two young players who could serve as an excellent plan B in case the attempt to bring Martin Necas or Trevor Zegras to Montreal falls through.
As reported by the site RDT, Boisvert suggests that the Canadiens closely look at Edmonton Oilers' forward Dylan Holloway and Nashville Predators' forward Philip Tomasino.
Here are his explanations:
«I would perhaps be ready to part with my second pick and a prospect, but not necessarily a top prospect, or even a one-for-one deal with Winnipeg's pick, the 26th pick. I believe that Dylan Holloway is worth as much as a dart thrown at the 26th position.»
«Philip Tomasino is capable of making spectacular plays and scoring goals; he's criticized for his lack of involvement. So, I'm not sure if he's a player the Canadiens would really like. However, the skills are there, the talent is there, and again, I think he's a guy who could definitely play in the middle of the lineup. For him, I would give a second pick and a prospect, but not a top one.»
Let's say that these two young forwards currently fit the profile that Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook had before the Canadiens decided to acquire them. If Kent Hughes intends to bring Holloway and Tomasino into the organization, the price to pay should be quite reasonable under the circumstances.
