In recent weeks, several reports suggested that the St. Louis Blues and the Montreal Canadiens were working on completing a trade for Jordan Kyrou.

However, based on what we're learning now, it seems that rumor was quite inaccurate, as Kyrou never actually appeared to be available from the Blues.
That's what Chris Johnston revealed in a recent episode of his podcast The Chris Johnston Show.
Chris Johnston: Re Jordan Kyrou trade rumours:

"It seems like that ship has sailed a little bit"

"I don't even know for sure how real Kyrou's availability ever was"

Darren Dreger echoes the same sentiment as his colleague regarding Jordan Kyrou and the Montreal Canadiens

For his part, Darren Dreger believes the rumor was misinterpreted.
Yes, Kent Hughes and the Habs were interested in the 27-year-old forward, but that interest wasn't mutual from the Blues' side.
Darren Dreger: "I believe the Canadiens were keen, super interested in Jordan Kyrou; explain to me why the St. Louis Blues would want to move a young player like that; unless you're getting a player.. that we don't know is available in Montreal."

- Ray and Dregs Podcast"
Dreger has a point - why would the team part with their leading goal scorer from last season (36 goals)?
Especially after trading away a prospect like Zachary Bolduc, who scored 19 goals last season and could very well increase his production in the coming years.
Is it really worth trading someone like Cole Caufield or Juraj Slafkovsky for a 27-year-old Kyrou?
Kent Hughes will need to get creative and look elsewhere to find his second-line center.
In my opinion, his best trade piece is Michael
Matheson.
He'll need to find a team that needs that type of defenseman and is willing to part with a center in return.
