It was obvious that Patrik Laine's start to the season would be closely monitored with the Montreal Canadiens, and that is indeed the case.

Let's remember that the Finnish forward is currently playing the final year of his contract, and he will become an unrestricted free agent unless he signs a new deal with the Habs.
The Canadiens' head coach didn't mince his words last week when he stated that Laine needed to have a bigger impact at five-on-five... And once again yesterday, he didn't hold back!

Martin St-Louis comments on Patrik Laine's behavior on the ice

In a press conference, St-Louis notably said this...
"He's doing his job 5-on-5 and that's where the game is played... We will continue to evaluate the behaviours but what I have seen so far 5-on-5, I'm satisfied with Patty and his line."

It's nice to see how open and transparent Martin St-Louis is when it comes to evaluating Laine's performance.
Let's remember that Laine has been demoted to the second power-play unit... he's also the least-used forward for the Canadiens so far this season. Beyond the words, that speaks volumes!
Patrik Laine, 27 years old, has 1 point in 4 games this season and has averaged 12 minutes and 43 seconds of ice time per game.
Notably, in the home season opener against the Seattle Kraken, Laine played only 10 minutes and 43 seconds.
