Joshua Roy's training camp with the Montreal Canadiens didn't last very long.

The Quebec native didn't survive the first round of cuts at the Canadiens' camp and was therefore sent down to join the Laval Rocket at Place Bell.
Following yet another disappointment, Roy admitted that he's aware of his shortcomings and wants to prove that he can be an NHL player.
"There's still a lot of work to do on my game and on the small details that will allow me to reach the next level."

"I need to offer more than just offense.

I need to become better defensively, that would become an asset."

"I've put in the effort and given myself the best chance.

Nothing is over yet.

It didn't go the way I wanted, but I'm still young and I'm going to keep chasing my dream."

The wake-up call Joshua Roy needed?

After the first weekend of the AHL season, it's fair to say that Roy has backed up his words with action, as the 22-year-old forward recorded three goals in two games.
Even better, beyond the numbers, Roy played committed hockey.
His intensity has gone up a level, and he's no longer hesitating to go into the tough areas to score goals.
Let's just say that sends quite a message to Kent Hughes and the organization's management!
"Roy makes it 2-0, early in the second period"

- Rocket Laval
His demotion seems to have lit a fire under him and motivated him to do what he does best-put the puck in the net.
However, he'll have to show that he can be effective without the puck and maintain a certain intensity in his defensive play if he wants to return to the big club.
Despite his three goals, Roy has a -1 plus-minus rating, even though the team has only allowed three goals.
That's proof that there's still some work to do...
Nevertheless, he's off to a very good start to his 2025-2026 season!
