Journalist Floats Trade Idea That Could Send Patrik Laine Out West

A journalist has just mentioned the possibility that the Montreal Canadiens could trade Patrik Laine in order to free up cap space.
Lyle Richardson, who writes for Bleacher Report, suggested that Kent Hughes could move the Finnish forward's $8.7 million salary to create more financial flexibility-particularly to help absorb Noah Dobson's contract.
"It could be interesting to monitor his status as a potential trade candidate if the Canadiens decide to clear cap space for other moves."

It's a scenario that has been proposed by B/R.
Of course, they would need to find a team willing to take on that hefty salary, and the site identified the San Jose Sharks as a potential landing spot.
General manager Mike Grier could be tempted to acquire Laine, as he could be a valuable piece alongside the Sharks' young forwards like Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and William Eklund.
More importantly, the team has plenty of cap space and seems ready to add more established players, as shown by their recent signings of Dmitry Orlov and Nick Leddy.
Plus, they need a player with a strong shot to help boost their power play..
