The good news is that Kent Hughes is fully aware of it.
As just reported by the excellent Marco D'Amico on BPM Sports, the Canadiens are working aggressively and seriously to acquire a quality left-handed center.

This could also explain the following:

Clearly, Kent Hughes doesn't see
Joseph Veleno as capable of playing in the top three lines - and that's not wrong.
Three names have just been connected to the Habs, including Pageau, though there's a handedness issue in his case.
Pagnotta is indeed linking the solid Islanders center to the Canadiens, but he also mentioned two other names that keep coming up more and more.
McTavish, 22 years old, recorded 52 points in 76 games this season and is currently a restricted free agent.
Rossi, 23 years old, notched 60 points in 82 games this season and is also a restricted free agent.
These are three names to keep in mind - but in any case, know that Kent Hughes is working very hard and very seriously to add a center to the roster.
