Sam Montembeault Sends Powerful Message to Marty St-Louis and His Teammates Amid Struggles
Montreal Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault knows very well that he hasn't had the kind of start to the season that was expected of him.
It's the first time I've seen this in over 10 years with the Montreal Canadiens - a goaltender was the first player to jump on the ice this morning for practice in Brossard!
That sends a strong message to his coaches and teammates. Montembeault worked extremely hard today.
Samuel Montembeault makes a notable gesture in front of everyone in Brossard, being the first to jump on the ice
Montembeault spent a LOT of extra time on the ice today. He even called over his goaltending coach to do extra work and look for solutions.
I love seeing that from a player who's trying to find ways to get back to his usual level of play.
Many people already want to see
Jakub Dobes named as the number-one goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, and it's true that he's been very solid this season, but I prefer to say that we have one heck of a goaltending duo! Period.
It could resemble what the Boston Bruins did with
Jeremy Swayman and
Linus Ullmark a few years ago (before trading Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators).
Dobes now has a record of 3-0-0 this season, with a goals-against average of 1.63 and a save percentage of .939.
Montembeault, for his part, has a record of 2-2-0 this season, with a goals-against average of 3.26 and a save percentage of .857.
