Another Blockbuster Trade Between Canadiens and Blues Was Negotiated but Ultimately Fell Through
As you know, the opening day of NHL free agency for Kent Hughes was marked by a trade completed with the St. Louis Blues.
According to several reliable sources, including Pierre LeBrun, another major trade was indeed negotiated between the Montreal Canadiens and the St. Louis Blues.
The Montreal Canadiens seriously worked on a trade for Jordan Kyrou before acquiring Zachary Bolduc, and Logan Mailloux was involved
"As we had reported before, the Habs and Blues had talked about a larger Jordan Kyrou deal and obviously that didn't come to pass."
- Pierre LeBrun
Afterward, Kyrou's full no-move clause went into effect.
"Logan Mailloux was one of the main pieces discussed in the Jordan Kyrou trade talks between the Habs and the Blues.
With Mailloux traded for Bolduc (solid move for both sides) I don't see a fit anymore between both teams."
- Marco D'Amico
So we can clearly forget about Kyrou, but let's just say Bolduc is still a fantastic acquisition!
And we even have a third source confirming the same information.
"Circling back to the Mailloux/Bolduc swap.. I like this move for both the Habs and Blues.
Blues wanted a good young Dman, Habs wanted a young winger and have a surplus of young D to spare.
Both sides discussed a larger move involving Kyrou, obviously couldn't get there."
- David Pagnotta
We can also confirm that three players were part of the discussions, including Logan Mailloux and Jordan Kyrou.
