The Leafs made one crucial mistake that could cost them their season
First, let's start with the least surprising news of the day.
Joseph Woll in goal tonight; Auston Matthews out
Indeed, it's the young Woll who will be in goal tonight, as Toronto faces elimination against the Boston Bruins again.
"Unsurprisingly, Joseph Woll is the first goalie to leave the ice after practice. He will be the starting goalie for the Maple Leafs for game 6." - Via Patrick Friolet, RDS
They really dropped the ball on this one.
Why did they wait so long to put Woll in?
He has been, by far, their best goalie in the regular season. He was solid in the playoffs last season, and he has been their best goalie for nearly two years.
It's a strange decision, but well, Sheldon Keefe really messed up in this case, in my opinion.
Woll has not lost in the current 2024 playoffs, with an average of 0.75 goals allowed per game and a stunning save percentage of 0.970.
Let's see if he can help the Leafs climb back. He was put into the series with the Bruins leading 3-1.
Finally, regarding forward Auston Matthews, he will unfortunately miss the game. Details below:
