Journalist Arpon Basu, who covers the Montreal Canadiens, has just made a very interesting revelation about Kent Hughes and Ivan Demidov.

According to him, the Canadiens might be tempted to make a splash at the draft and pay the necessary price to move up and acquire the second overall pick.

Their goal would be to get their hands on the incredible Ivan Demidov. Wow.

Ivan Demidov is firmly in the sights of Kent Hughes and the Canadiens

This comes from a journalist at The Athletic.

"If the management of the Canadiens wasn't very fond of Matvei Michkov last year, I'm told that their opinion of Ivan Demidov is quite different. They would have no hesitation to select him if he were available at their pick.

He has only one year left on his contract in the KHL and has refused to sign a contract extension. But one year is not three years as was the case for Michkov, and I'm told that the Canadiens see Demidov as a much more complete player than Michkov.

A source also tells me that the management of the CH has been granted permission to watch several of Demidov's games this season via live video, something they couldn't do last year for Michkov.

The Canadiens might even be tempted to pay the price to move up in the draft and select Demidov, but there are also other forwards they like who could be available at their pick, such as Cayden Lindstrom or Tij Iginla."

In short, if the CH did not want to draft Michkov last season, it would be completely different for the young Demidov, a player they know much better than Michkov and a more complete player than Michkov, at least according to the decision-makers of the Montreal Canadiens.

This is really interesting.

Demidov is extremely talented and he is the best player in this draft session (after Celebrini) without a doubt.

Demidov, 18 years old, is a winger who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He has amassed 60 points in 30 games this season in St. Petersburg.
