We have a major news announcement involving Montreal-born defenseman Marc-Édouard Vlasic and the San Jose Sharks.

After several weeks of speculation and rumors, it's now confirmed!
Even though the Sharks have plenty of cap space under the NHL salary cap, they've decided to place defenseman Marc-Édouard Vlasic on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract immediately.

The Sharks Are Buying Out Marc-Édouard Vlasic's Contract: It's Over for Him There

Could a return to Quebec interest Vlasic?
Could ending his career with the Montreal Canadiens appeal to him if Kent Hughes makes the call?
"Marc-Edouard Vlasic (SJ) has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout."

- Chris Johnston
In a recent interview, Vlasic's girlfriend, the excellent Frédérique Guay had this to say:
"The couple has a plan: once Vlasic's hockey career ends - his contract with the Sharks runs until the end of the 2025-2026 season - they will return to Quebec.
At that point, it will be her turn to refocus on her career."

- TVA Sports

So we can assume that, yes, they may be interested in returning to Quebec.
At 38 years old and originally from Montreal, Vlasic is a left-handed defenseman standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 205 pounds.
In 2024-2025, he recorded three points in 27 games with the San Jose Sharks, finishing with a -10 rating.
More details to come.
