There have been numerous rumors and speculation surrounding Mitch Marner and the Montreal Canadiens ever since the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated.

That said, we now have official confirmation!
Mitch Marner has decided to test the free agent market - he will not be signing with the Leafs before July 1 (unless there's a massive twist), making him a potential acquisition for many teams across the NHL.
Before considering signing him, the key was making sure he reached July 1, and that's now the case (or at least, that's what he's decided as of today).

Mitch Marner Will Test Free Agency on July 1: It's Confirmed!

It was expected, but this is the first time we've heard it stated this clearly and directly.
"Chris Johnston: Mitch Marner will test the open market, but the Leafs will be a team he considers on July 1st"

- Chris Johnston Show
He's expected to attract massive interest across the NHL! This is big. It's rare to see such an elite player hit the open market.
At 28 years old, Marner stands 6 feet tall, weighs 180 pounds, and was the 4th overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015.
Over the past few seasons, he's put up point-per-game production of 103, 101, 101, 110, and 100 points, all over 82-game stretches.
Despite his reputation, in the playoffs, he's totaled 63 points in 70 career games - which is actually quite solid.
Do you think Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens should give Mitch Marner a call?
He could be incredible on a line with Ivan Demidov, but he'll likely demand a very hefty annual salary.
