Hockey World in Mourning as 19-Year-Old Hometown Player Tragically Passes Away
Tragic news has just been reported, notably by journalist Olivier Faucher. The hockey world-and all of Quebec-is in mourning following the announcement of the death of young Gabriel Martin, a Quebec-born hockey player who was only 19 years old.
19 years old-imagine that.
As reported by the Journal de Montréal, young Gabriel Martin died this past Friday in a violent car accident while he was at work.
Chantal Lortie, his mother, was understandably devastated when she answered a few questions from the JdeM journalist.
A 19-Year-Old Quebec Hockey Player Dies in Car Accident
I can't even imagine what his parents, family, and loved ones must be feeling right now.
"The young man, employed by a construction company, was a passenger in a utility van on his way to his next worksite shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, when the vehicle violently collided with a flatbed truck that was backing out of a driveway on Victor Road in Mirabel.
The passenger side became wedged under the platform of the truck, according to the Mirabel Police Department."

He ultimately died from a leg hemorrhage.
Gabriel Martin was not only an excellent hockey player, but a true lover of our national sport. He saw the arena as his second home.
"Gabriel's death also sent shockwaves through his hockey teammates, a sport he had played since he was 6 years old. [...]"
"Hockey was his passion.
The arena was his second home.
He was a cheerful little guy who loved life, and he was very well surrounded by friends.
Everyone loved him,"
- Said his mother.
Once again, we offer our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of this young hockey player, who are no doubt going through an incredibly difficult time.
