Major announcement: It's happening today for Ivan Demidov and the Canadiens
It's officially happening today for Ivan Demidov and the Montreal Canadiens, in preparation for the 2024 NHL Draft.
Today, the Habs will finally have the chance to interview the young Demidov and spend the day with him.
«Today marks the start of the pre-draft Showcase in Florida, where prospect Ivan Demidov will be present.
The Habs' management will also be there (to meet him).
Very eager to read more and also to know Demidov's exact measurements!» - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
This is exciting! He's there!
Please note that for the Montreal Canadiens, Nick Bobrov is also on-site and could definitely have a special connection with the young Demidov.
Ivan Demidov as the 5th overall pick for the Montreal Canadiens?
For those who haven't followed the Demidov case too closely, let's remember that he is an exceptional talent, ranked as the 2nd best player in the 2024 draft by most experts. However, it's also worth noting that he could realistically slip to the 5th overall pick for the Montreal Canadiens (due to his country of birth).
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton would then have a very tough decision to make, just as they had a tough decision last year with Matvei Michkov.
However, there are several differences in Demidov's case.
He is much more accessible than Michkov; he doesn't have the long KHL contract that Michkov had, he is a far more complete player than Michkov (notably both offensively and defensively), and he reportedly has an exemplary attitude.
We are really looking forward to seeing what happens next, but today will indeed be a decisive day for Ivan Demidov and the Montreal Canadiens.
If the Habs manage to draft Demidov at the 5th spot, it could truly be a home run.
