With the new collective bargaining agreement just signed in the NHL, it's probably only a matter of time before an expansion is announced.

We already know that the cities of Houston and Atlanta have shown interest, and now a well-known insider has provided an update on the situation.
Via his X account, Frank Seravalli revealed that five U.S. cities are in discussions among NHL governors and have expressed interest in obtaining a franchise.
These cities are Houston, Atlanta, Indianapolis, New Orleans, and Austin, Texas.
Yes, you read that correctly.

Five Cities Named for Potential NHL Expansion Under Gary Bettman: No Sign of the Quebec Nordiques

Austin's candidacy may seem surprising, especially with Houston already mentioned-having three teams in Texas within the NHL would be odd, but nevertheless, it was named.
Seravalli also revealed that interested groups will likely have to pay $2 billion USD to join the NHL.
That's a far cry from the $500 million Vegas paid to enter in 2016.
As for Quebec, the Daily Faceoff insider made no mention of it.
That doesn't mean it's a lost cause, though, as it's known that no serious buyer has come forward from Quebec City at this point.
It would be absolutely incredible if he followed through!
