A little earlier today, we learned some very sad news involving a former player from the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Wayne Thomas, who was 77 years old and played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1972 to 1974, sadly passed away in the last few hours.
He was quietly a teammate of legendary names like Yvan Cournoyer, Jacques Lemaire, Guy Lafleur, Henri Richard, Larry Robinson, Yvon Lambert, and many others.
He was their trusted man!
And just in the last few minutes, the San Jose Sharks publicly revealed the cause of Thomas's death.

Wayne Thomas fought a long and courageous battle against illness

This is indeed what is stated in the official press release.
In the Sharks' statement, the following can be read:
"It is with deep sadness that the San Jose Sharks organization announces the passing of Wayne Thomas, longtime executive, goaltending coach, and eight-season NHL veteran, after a long battle with cancer.

Wayne passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family."

- San Jose Sharks

Once again, we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones, and to the organizations of the San Jose Sharks and the Montreal Canadiens.
He was a goaltender who left his mark on the Canadiens in his own way, especially through his dedication and passion for our beautiful sport.
