Pierre LeBrun Reveals the Canadiens' Decision Regarding Jeff Gorton and the Islanders
We have an update regarding the rumors involving Jeff Gorton and the New York Islanders.
As we reported a bit earlier today:
All the details are in the article, but essentially, it's understood that the Islanders, who now hold the first overall pick in the 2025 draft, were aiming to hire Jeff Gorton.
We're using the past tense here, because it seems this matter has already been resolved.
The Canadiens have reportedly rejected the New York Islanders' request, according to Pierre LeBrun
Here's his exact statement:
"My understanding is the Habs' response to the Islanders is that Jeff Gorton is in Montreal to stay."
- Pierre LeBrun
So, Geoff Molson and Kent Hughes apparently have absolutely no intention of letting Gorton leave.
As Marco D'Amico mentioned earlier, Jeff Gorton was extremely disappointed not to have finished his rebuild of the New York Rangers, so he will certainly want to fully complete the rebuild of the Montreal Canadiens.
"Further to this, Gorton has gone on the record in saying he wants to see this Canadiens' rebuild through and bring a Cup to Montreal.
As EVP of the Montreal Canadiens, there's very little that could truly woo Gorton away from Montreal."
- Marco D'Amico
That's exactly what we wanted to hear!
