Islanders Submit Request to Steal Jeff Gorton from the Canadiens
We have a major development involving the New York Islanders, one that directly impacts the Montreal Canadiens.
As you know, there have been two significant stories surrounding the Islanders in recent days.
First, they fired their general manager, Lou Lamoriello, and second, they won the first overall pick in the 2025 draft last night.
That said, here's a new development from the Islanders.
The New York Islanders Request Permission to Speak with Jeff Gorton
He is clearly the one they want to hire as their new GM to replace Lou Lamoriello.
This is a major situation we'll be watching closely, but I strongly believe the Canadiens will deny this request.
That's also what the excellent Marco D'Amico seems to suggest.
"The New York Islanders reaching out to the Montreal Canadiens for permission to speak to Jeff Gorton is not surprising.
Like last season with Columbus, they aren't likely to get a positive answer out of Geoff Molson."
Clearly, Jeff Gorton is in high demand.. but all signs point to him wanting to finish the Canadiens' rebuild all the way through!
"Jeff Gorton was/is extremely disappointed that he didn't get to finish his rebuild with the Rangers.
There's very little chance he would want to walk away from his current contract and mandate with the Canadiens, especially now that they're just starting to show promise of success.
Teams will keep trying, as they should."
- Marco D'Amico
It would be an interesting opportunity for Jeff Gorton, but I still believe he'll want to stay here, with the Montreal Canadiens!
And what do you think, should the Canadiens accept this request and let Jeff Gorton take his shot with the Islanders?
