As part of his final press conference of the season, Jeff Gorton was cautious. He was careful not to reveal too much about his team's intentions or the acquisitions being targeted, but he still gave us at least one clear answer.
Throughout his media availability, every time he was asked about the type of impact player the Canadiens want to acquire this summer, Jeff Gorton repeated the same three words.
"Jeff Gorton's shopping list for the Montreal Canadiens.
Adding players with compete, size and skill.
Weighs the importance of compete and size in his discussions with Kent Hughes on how to improve the team."
- Marco D'Amico
Size, character, and competitiveness.
Basically, the two most important criteria for Gorton are competitiveness and size.
The Canadiens clearly don't want a player like Trevor Zegras
Knowing that Jeff Gorton has clearly hammered home the organization's focus on acquiring big, gritty playoff-style players, we can confidently cross Zegras' name off the list.
On top of that, Kent Hughes has openly said they don't want too many similar-type players.
In light of these statements, it's safe to forget about Trevor Zegras.
Don't be surprised if Zegras is traded this summer, but don't be surprised if he isn't traded to the Montreal Canadiens.
Zegras, 24, recorded 32 points in 57 games this season with the Anaheim Ducks, and has 186 points in 268 career NHL games.
