Kent Hughes is truly incredible.
We mentioned it to you earlier today, but we now have all the details and a nice surprise.
Mike Matheson, 31 years old, is a left-shot defenseman who collected 31 points in 80 games as well as 62 points in 82 games over the last two seasons.
He earns $4.875 million per year until 2026, and his new salary will "kick in" afterward.
Frank Seravalli notably confirms that Matheson left money on the table because he really wanted to stay with the Montreal Canadiens. He could've easily gotten around $7 million per year on the open market.
Also, the contract features strong protection early on with a full no-move clause in the first three years, before the clauses ease in the final two years.
More details to come.
