Lane Hutson's debut with the CH has shown promising signs. Not only did the young defenseman make his mark on the score sheet, but he also seemed to fit right in against a team fighting for survival.
Former NHL coach Bob Hartley recently made a flattering comparison of the CH prospect. According to him, Hutson closely resembles one of his former players, Johnny Gaudreau.
A similar path
Like Hutson, Gaudreau, who had finished his NCAA career, played a game at the end of the season to burn a year of his contract. He had greatly impressed Hartley not only with his first career goal but also with his movement on the ice.
Considering Gaudreau has amassed more than 743 points in 763 games despite his small size, there is plenty to be excited about!
Caution
However, we must be cautious with our expectations for the young defenseman. Transitioning from college level to the NHL is a significant step. He will be playing against men, and that, 82 times, instead of about forty games as in the NCAA. He will also face a lot of competition at the next training camp, with nearly 12 defensemen vying for a spot with the main club.
Nevertheless, we can be positive about the young man's future. The good reviews, like those from Hartley, are certainly reassuring!
