Lane Hutson is truly a unique hockey player and young man.
It flew a bit under the radar, but this is the kind of story I love-it shows just how exceptional his personality is.
At a press conference with reporters a few days ago, Lane Hutson actually spoke about the possibility of not playing for the Montreal Canadiens this season.
Lane Hutson believes there's a chance he won't make the team
The young star defenseman, winner of the Calder Trophy (awarded to the NHL's Rookie of the Year), really came into this 2025 Canadiens training camp with the mindset that he needed to earn a spot.
What an incredible attitude!
In his view, there's a real chance he won't make the team if he doesn't have a strong camp (or finish the camp well), and he believes he must give everything to earn the opportunity to start the season in Montreal rather than Laval.
In any case, he's far from taking his spot for granted, despite everything he accomplished last season.. Wow!
Lane Hutson apparently still has the mentality of guy just trying to make the NHL:
"I think you're always fighting for spots, there are no guarantees ever for jobs. Everyone wants to play for the big club and show what they can do. The fight never stops. You always wanna be ready when your name's called, whether it's pre-season, regular season or playoffs. You always wanna be ready."

What an incredible statement from Lane Hutson!
I think this shows so well how humble and hardworking he is, never taking anything for granted.
He will always keep working as if his spot is at risk.
A statement like this must be pure music to the ears of a coach like Martin St-Louis!
