Brendan Gallagher experienced something of a resurgence in 2024-2025, putting up a 21-goal season.

The veteran forward will once again play a key role in the Canadiens' success this season, having found early chemistry with Bolduc and Dach.
However, despite his success, fans shouldn't expect Gallagher to extend his career in Montreal-at least according to one expert.
In a recently published article in the Montreal Gazette, Stu Cowan discussed several issues surrounding the Canadiens and gave his take on the future of number 11 within the organization.
According to the well-known journalist, despite everything Gallagher brings to the team and his positive influence on younger players, he doesn't expect Kent Hughes to offer him a new contract.

It will be the end for 33-year-old forward Brendan Gallagher with the Montreal Canadiens in 2027, according to Stu Cowan

Here's his exact statement:
"Gallagher, 33, has one more season after this remaining on his contract with a US$6.5 million salary-cap hit and as the longest-serving player on the team.

I do think he will finish his contract with the Canadiens. I also don't think that's to the detriment of younger players. Instead, it gives them more time to develop.

Gallagher will be 35 when his contract expires and I can't see the Canadiens keeping him."

- Stu Cowan
It's worth noting that when Gallagher's contract expires, he'll be 35 years old, and it would be rather surprising if the Canadiens' management wanted to keep him-especially considering the number of quality young prospects within the organization.
Young players like Alexander Zharovsky and Michael Hage may already be with the big club by then, leaving little room for veterans like Gallagher, or even Josh Anderson, whose contract ends at the same time as number 11's.
